editor
An open-source video editor built for agents. Edits become code, code becomes video.
The editor agent skill brings professional video editing capabilities to AI coding assistants through a command-line interface and code-driven composition system. Built by Diffusion Studio, it lets AI agents cut footage, remove filler words, add subtitles, apply color correction, create motion graphics, and render finished videos—all controlled through natural language prompts translated into executable commands. Every edit generates real SolidJS JSX code that can be refined either by the agent or manually in the accompanying desktop app. The skill works bidirectionally: changes made in the visual editor update the code, and code changes redraw the canvas, ensuring agents always work with the latest project state.
Key Features

editor — FAQ
What is the Diffusion Studio editor agent skill?+
It's an agent skill that enables AI coding assistants like Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot to edit videos through code and CLI commands. Agents can cut footage, add effects, generate graphics, and render final videos by issuing natural language instructions that translate into executable dapi commands and JSX compositions.
How do I install the editor skill for my AI agent?+
First download the Diffusion Studio desktop app from diffusion.studio/download to get the dapi CLI tools. Then add the skill to your agent using 'npx skills add diffusionstudio/skills'. The desktop app walks you through the complete setup process including PATH configuration for the dapi command.
Which AI clients and coding assistants work with this skill?+
The skill works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini CLI. Any AI coding assistant that can invoke shell commands and work with file-based projects can use the dapi CLI to drive video editing workflows.
Do I need API keys or special accounts to use this skill?+
You need the Diffusion Studio desktop app installed, which provides the dapi CLI and rendering engine. For generative features like AI-created images and video (generate.image, generate.video), you'll need authenticated access through the Diffusion Studio account system, configured via the desktop app.
Is the Diffusion Studio editor skill free to use?+
The editor is open-source under the MPL-2.0 license. The desktop app is available for download, though specific licensing terms for commercial rendering and generative asset features should be verified on the official Diffusion Studio website.
Can agents see and understand video content before editing?+
Yes, the dapi CLI includes media inspection commands like 'dapi media transcribe' for word-level transcripts, 'dapi media listen' for multimodal video understanding, 'dapi media filmstrip' for visual sampling, and 'dapi media waveform' for audio analysis. These tools let agents analyze footage without actually watching it.
